who cares what others think. At teh end of the day, it's your knees and your responsibility to do as you feel necessary. A lady friend of mine rides with some very decent knee and elbow guards, and she rides XC only. Very low profile, and they dont turn u into a terminator.

RB: if u feel u need to wear them, get them. Once your skill and confidence levels are up, again, it will be up to your to wear them or not. Dont worry about the 'fashion mafias'. The true haut couture is being out there riding your bike and having fun. In one piece.

I'm no maniac, but I have had my fair share of crashes when I raced quads, and I really like to keep my skin on and knees and elbows are constantly getting scraped.

I spent two months walking with a crutch (and unable to ride my bike) because I smashed my knee. Now I wear knee pads whenever I ride. I couldn't care less what people think, but people don't really seem to notice anyway.

Chicks dig scars.

I think scars are cool. They tell stories. Around the braai your friends will ask: "Hey, what scar is that/what happened there?"

I have yet to go to go to a braai and have my friends say "Hey, you have really nice skin..."
