If this guy was just a 'cyclist' then they wouldn't have bothered to bring the sport into it. What if (by the name that is being bandied about up here, and by the long-term reputation of this 'gent') we are be dealing with somebody who was an elected official within the sport over at least some of this period. Then, is his involvement in cycling relevant to the story?

Thanks, onetrackmind, that is the case here.

Yeah, that changes it.

If it is a person voted into a position of trust, and that trust/position is abused for personal gain, be that sexual/financial...whatever) then it is relevent.

Under media law, he cannot be named until he is asked to plead in a court of law. This is a civil case, which means his identity will remain concealed as he doesn't have to plead. Further, if you read the story, identifying him would by association reveal the name of the accused. This is aslo forbidden under SA law. Exceptions can be made, but only with the consent of the alleged victim, as happened in the Modimolle case.

Trackie, from the correspondence I have received since posting this story here and elsewhere yesterday, his identity has got to be the sport's worst-kept secret.

But Gay Redneck, let's be honest, the one is not really that famous.

And to correct my earlier post, revealing the accused's identity would by association reveal the identity of the alleged victim.

And this is not a good thing at all, imagine how malicious and vicious people will become with their mouths.

I must be out of the loop then, I have no idea who it could be.
