Also sometimes guys are late or didnt do seeding rides etc. so if you stay near the front of your group you will probably find a few strong guys just remember dont try and stick with them if they are too strong dont want to bonk at Chappies. Balls to the wall on the downhills passing slower riders but its fun.

my theory in the hack bunches is that the best gain for your effort is caning it on the uphills

Another rookie mistake is to catch a bunch in front of you and slow down to their pace. Rather go past keeping the same pace and if they want to join they must ride at your groups pace k@k them out if they move to the front and slow the pace down. In my opinion the best place to be is the first ten riders don't have the elastic effect, more accidents happen near the middle to back and you can keep an eye on any break aways.

Did that in E last year - was the plan to be in the front 25% of the bunch always! Was riding withing the top 15 guys most of the time. Went up past Cape Point's entrance climb towards the front. Went up chappies 4th wheel. 3rd wheel popped under pressure but couldn't move off the line because we were squeesed up the edge of the rock wall going up chappies. Lost contact of the front two guys.

On the whole, do more races and gain experience with bunch riding skills.

That's where your classroom really starts.

Good luck, man!

I am scared like hell of the bunches. Especially those that I will encounter from the PA group.

How many bunches should I expect to pass if I am aiming at an average of 25-28km/h?

Whilst I am at it; I see that WindGuru predicts the SE to start picking up strongly from Wednesday. Time to start an Argus Wheather prediction/speculation thread.

good point.

it was not windy last year, so it is definitely going to blow a black south easter at hurricane strength unless the white witch can do her thing. what group is mrs zille starting in again?
