Oh yes it is very much possible if you are fit and alert.

My brother-in-law Pete did it back in 2008 (a good weather race). It was his first Argus and he started right at the back and finished 3h32 later. He said there were quite a few people doing a fast race and it was easy to form a fast bunch. They were MTB’ers doing a road race, those who did not enter a road race during the past year or two, plus quite a few better seeded guys who helped their mates or girlfriends, etc.

He said that it seemed as if they overtook about 5 000 other cyclists, which was hectic but fun!

cool, i just hope there's good weather this time.

Once you get to the double letter groups pacelines cease to exist and the bunch-riding is determined by a well-known scientific principle

Your task will be to safely navigate through this at over 30km/h for 109km.

because of wind, heat, people in your way etc...

Did you train well, Josh?

That's your biggest secret to attaining a sub 4 from any group, really.

Overtaking so many people is quite a boost to the ego, be carefull not to overcook it early on, just stick to the splits plan for the 1st half and then push some more if you feel good. Most people still keep left out of habit, so if you look well ahead to find an open "lane" on the right, you will slip through easily 99% of the time.

i haven't been training that well, i need to find a group of riders to train with throughout the year ...I'm still not sure on what supplements to use , gel or gums what energy bars and what energy drink I have been changing each week, i think that is a problem.

sounds hard :whistling:

heheh I did a 3.11 from S back in 2005 I think - even from S I was hoarse at the end of it.

In 2010 I did a double Argus and started the 2nd lap with the very last group. The road looked exactly like the video above. Even in near-hurricane conditions, people seem to have no ability to co-operate and just weave all over the place.

That changes the picture somehow - aim for a sub 5h and just have fun!!! Do a few stops, chat to the cheerleaders, and just take-in the vibe.

See it as a checking-out funride for your 2013 sub 4h race.

In 2011 20 people went sub 4 from OG ....

2010: 1 did (was this the windy year?)

2009: Racetec gives "Sorry, an error occurred..."

2008: 16 did it

2007: 30 did it

2006: 27 did it

2005: No OG group, but 11 did it from OF

The only hold up you will realy have is turning right up boyes drive lots of people cramming up a steep climb if you on a mountain bike just go around the right.
