Entered the 53km last night. The plan is to do it on the three speed, to get the MTB legs going before the Nissan series starts.

Hopefully I won't 'get lost' and divert onto the short route like a few years ago

Who'll be there?

We didnt enjoy the northerns quicky at all last year. the short route was quite technical and overfaced us. and dont let anybody tell you it's flat and fast either! The fact that the longer distance looped the short one and I got shoved right off the singletrack and crashed into the bushes by an testosterone driven @sshat didnt help either.

Nothing technical about anything at NF. There I've said it.

Perhaps I should quantify by saying that WE, as rank mtb beginners (I was a newly converted roadie at the time) found it technical. Winding switchbacks through the forest, rocky climbs, thick mud, very narrow, very slick singletrack next to the aquaduct. All with the 53km leaders looping the 20km and getting aggro behind you.

Should be better the second time? yeah, it is unsettling if you struggle over obstacles, and duck and dive through/over the rocks and there are faster riders breathing down your neck. I've held Mighty Mice up like this once before... Not pleasant!

It becomes easier to let the faster riders through(technically easier, but more sore on the ego) as confidence and skill improves.

I also got somewhat sidetracked 2 years back

I solemnly swear to keep my eyes open for the signboards. Even those 'hidden' by the view of other participants :whistling:

Its poor form to have the faster group and the slower group on the same part of track at the same time. everybody pays the same entry, and everybody deserves an un harrased ride. - my 2c

MBP told me he is going for the win..... good luck MBP.

Shaddap fool ! I'll be lucky to make half way if we are riding to the race. I'm using this to kickstart my training for Sani... there is a target on your back.
