greetings All

As a Newbie I have found this site very informative and for my first post here goes.

currently have a GT still on v brakes and busy with the conversion to discs, have most of the parts (rims, hubs, discs) except for the brake set as im not sure which is a decent quality to purchase. Wat do you guys suggest?

not looking at spending a large sum of cash on brakes but just want a decent set.

Is it possible to buy this secondhand in the classifieds?

thanks alot

Oh yes its not post mount on the shock so will need the adapters.

What GT model is it and are you sure you can convert it to disc brakes, i.e. the fork supports disc brakes and you have the right mounts on your rear triangle?

And whats your budget?

If you are planing on doing your own maintenance, cant go wrong with set of Hope X2 - bit of an investment but one you wont regret if you enjoy quality products. All parts are reusable, and you can get spares and bits from CRC (shop around for prices - UK Bike Store also had some good deals last time I was in the market) You will need the right adapters from your fame / fork mounts, front / back are different. Hope Floating Rotors are great products as well.

Not too many going 2nd hand but otherwise if you are prepared to wait brake sets like Shimano and others do come up at bargain prices from time to time.

its a GT outpost.

I will prob spend around R1k, anything more I think will be a waste on this sort of bike.

Well I have upgraded the wheel set that i got at a decent price. Current shocks have a caliper mount but been given a better set of Shocks thats definetly only for disc brakes. So will fit there.

only thing I need now is the calipers and lever set to finish it of.

Im in no rush so will keep looking around.

A set of Tektro Augria brakes should do the trick, standard with some GT's. Should get for under 1k for the whole set. Have done many k's with mine. No trouble. Pads are easy to find and long lasting. Lever reach is adjustable, unit uses a two piece clamp so you need not remove grips etc. Uses mineral oil.
