Maps and Ridea Navigation on GPS based cycling computers

So after getting my new Garmin 800 and seen as though it has some really funky features I am trying to find out how to use it to its full effect. Some questions:

 

1.) What websites does everyone use to share rides and routes - Garmin Connect, Endomondo, others ?

2.) Is there a site with a database of MTB routes that I can send to the device and use to find new singletrack and other routes

3.) Maps - especially topo maps: Garmin Topo and Rec is R1299-00. Is there anywhere I can get a good topo map cheaper.

4.) This thing takes an SD card - how do I get maps on to the SD card or do I have to buy them on the SD card from Garmin.

 

Maps and their formats and navigation is like learning Cyrillhic.

Open source MTB map that contains some topo data. The site also has instructions for loading it onto the SD card.
