I see that we have a new route for the Jock. What was the reason for changing the old Jock route and how do you feel about the new route over Kaapse Hoop?

The 29th edition of the Bestmed Jock Cycle Classique, presented by ASG on 21 July 2012, covers a total distance of 144km, covering three stages on a revised route, the result of road works on the N4 between Nelspruit and Boulders.

The first stage of the Jock remains as is from last year, starting in Barberton and finishing at Bergvlam High School in Nelspruit.

The second stage goes up to Kaapsehoop and it will be the first time the Jock stops over in this beautiful little village nestled in high in the mountains. The stage is only 30km in length, making it one of the shortest in the history of the event, but it’s by no means the easiest.

The 30km stage climbs literally all the way from start to finish and will have a four hour cut-off, which illustrates the difficulty. There are 2 waterpoints on this 30km stretch.

The final stage is one of the longest ever presented on the Jock, but it will be decidedly easier than the traditional 54km 3rd stage stint from Kaapmuiden to Barberton.

The stage covers 74km and drops down the same pass riders climbed in the second stage. You will only turn the first pedal after 30km once you enter Nelspruit.

On the other side of Nelspruit the road starts going up and down with mild undulations until you reach the top of Hilltop. It’s going to be a rewarding experience descending down Hilltop for riders, knowing that they had climbed it the morning.

After the Hilltop descent is the hardest part of the stage and there’s a lot of climbing to be done until the final 20km to Barberton, which present a gentle descent up to the final 3km climb to the finish.

Good point does not say - however if they say it is easier than last years stage 3 then i say a MILLION thank yous :D
