Dont worry I have a box of them at home! was expecting at least two tyre chnages for epic but the original ones are still 100%.

This post by the Shark got me thinking.

I know that much time and energy was spent before the race making sure that every eventuality was planned for and that the Camelbak was stuffed with spares, tools, food etc.

So what did you use and what did you NOT use and what would you leave behind next time?

Oh, and what did you need, and not have ?

I am trying to find out what people thought they may have needed, and what they actually used. Maybe this way I can get my own pockets lighter next time I hit the spruit........

After the problems we have had on a previous Epic and Pioneer I bought a whole box of bombs (30). I carried 4 every day - we used 2; 1 to bomb a collapsed rear shock on day 3 and one 7 k's from the finish when my rear tire burped over a root...

I also packed loads of snack that my kids are still feasting on - Woollies looked after as well.

I took a box of Fast Fuel gels and used most of those though!

My buddy didn't use his partner on the Epic after the second stage. Could have been the most expensive 'extra' he took along and didn't use that much!

4 x Slime filled tubes. Did not get a single puncture.

Recovery drink. Nothing beats real food and woolies handed us food and milk shakes as soon as we crossed the finish line.

In fact not, it did feel like a hardtail afterwards, but we deflated it to the correct pressure at the next water point and everything was fine.

Remember as a tip and if anyone wins a price with it in Bicycling magazine I want 50%!

Also used no bombs, tubes etc due to no punctures for partner and myself

Didnt use all the Epic Pro, stuff tastes too horrible.

Also, didnt use a single bike service or massage service. Those are overpriced and unnecessary.

We used the mechanics pack. Over priced I do agree. But the peace of mind knowing that you start everyday with a fully functional bike was worth every cent IMO.
