lasts long? not according to 360life ;) here, open up to have your egg sir..

btw: i said super grip, not great grip. sounds like u ride really slow :P

ignore me. The moer-in tyred with a headache. :P

We talking xc here not downhill, and I dont need super grip, and what 360life got has nothing do to with wear and all about punctures - it happens to all tyres.

Im' well aware we talking XC,and that's exactly what i'm referring as well. No one other than u brought up DH... Tongue in cheek jibe was 360, so chillax and njoi your egg.w/e that means.

and i'm still saying, you can have super grip with XC. With those Kenda nevegals that came stock on my whip, it hated it cos i thought super grip was not possible. Turns out it was possible: just had to vary the tire pressure and get my fork setup correctly. Air pressure in both instances was the key.

but it does not obviate from what i saying: u cant have super grip and a long lasting tyre, oh and the main caveat which i evidently had to spell out: and ride hard. Yes, XCers ride hard, or dont you?

dont bite on the flamebait :P

Anyways, once the nevegals come off, it's over to the Nobby Nics EVO with snakeskin that are TLR. So far, very happy with the snakeskin evo on my DH tyres (but those do wear very quickly compared to minions ST, but this is irrelevant to the discussion as the compounds are not the same).

I just wish more ppl would understand that you cant have super grip, and a long lasting tyre. This is a pure generalisation with no reference to any in specific: but it's f'ing annoying when they bitch the "the tyre wear's too quickly" without providing context for the use, or the fact that it is a soft compound, high grip carcass. It misinforms those looking for options and polarises opinions on brands. I'm wishing for something tantamount to a solution to world hunger and/or peace, but dayum!

Agreed! Furthermore I'd take grip over poor wear on tar any day. My 12 month old Ralph's are fast as fudge if I want grip I just lean hard into the corner to hookup the side knobs!

that poor wear on tar cracks me up  Have u used Schwalbe's other than the RRs? I chose the NNs because i wanted more grip. The RRs are considered faster rollers than the NNs. Dont suppose you've tried both?

no just RR's I've just got a pair of 2012 RR'S evo's fitted. apparently (according to schwalbe) they're gripper or exhibit better transition between the knobs as well as being faster rolling. I find the grip on RR's to be just fine but maybe that's down to my tractor wheels - 29x2.25 @1.4/5 front and 1.7/8 rear

I wish more people would understand that in the context of a bicycle, what you are talking about is meaningless. What we saw at the recent Epic, was due to skill, not grip. Look here on this forum, guys saying they didn't puncture once.

I had this talk once with an ex-hubber. What I said was the more you are on your limit, the more ragged you are, the more punctures and breakages will happen to you. Cause you don't have the luxury of choosing your line and being precise when you're red-lining.

that's the one thing i had to get used to on the thinner XC type carcasses> the transition from middle to side knobs is pretty darn snappy  Nice low pressure you running there: grip must be insane! Dont ding your rims?

Saying skill i dont agree with,

dont come more skilled that Evans and George, but i agree the faster and more aggresive you ride, the more the chances of getting punctures or tears, and these guys are aggresive. And sometime they have to take those chances.

errm whatever u say. read further down: clearly stated the epic thing was not thread related. Get a grip on the context it was used on, or dont bother trolling.

as for redlining and not having a perfect line, my word, i would never have thought... It's not like gunning it because you have super grip, and the tyres dont experiences higher rates of wear. Totally zero correlation there right?

Actually i get better grip with slightly higher pressures (obviously rider wheight dependent) have to rember XC tyres does not have the strong sidewalls of DH tyres, so everyone wants to run their pressures as low as possible, the problem is it completly bends the carcass and deforms the tyre actually ending up in less grip, washouts and tyres running of the rails.

Ive tried so many tires all at different types of pressures, i get the best results for my 87kg's running most tyres between 1.8 and 2.2. Anything less its no grip total washouts and really staggering rolling resitance.

Where? By the OP? The second post in this thread references dick and dave at the Epic.
