Hi guys, was wondering if someone could help and maybe give advice. I have a choice of either keeping my XTR wheels or getting a set of NEW Mavic SLR wheels(26")......I dont no any one that has the SLR so never heard any pros or cons about them.....just looking for some personal opinions, cant always trust what you read.

Super light rims those SLRs. Fully UST compliant. Damn strong. Looks awesome with that ISM (interspoke milling) dressing. Gorgeous.

What's more to say other than it's stupidly expensive

thanks man....but what about maintance........do you have a pair?

have two sets of top end mavic rims. No issues with hubs and what not. One set gets a thorough trashing almost every day. No qualms.

thanks guys......k by the sounds of things it will be the SLR then.......just to clarify this is not for the new 2012 its the older models

I'll be honest: i'm not sure what the difference is between the diff year models. Sure, things get a tad lighter, but as for the rest of it: bladed spokes, decent hubs, dropdead sexy looks.. i dunno hey..

If u find out, let us know Monsterman.. (btw: your nick infer u a Monster Energy Addict?)

3 issues I know of with Mavic wheels:

1. Squeeling sound from freehub, fairly common. This is caused by a design flaw, don't know if they have corrected it.

2. Nipples seize in the rim.

3. Rim cracks from bur on the inside of a spoke hole.

The XTRs are the better wheels, imo.

Are those truly generic issues that affect all models of mavics? Ihave two sets, none of those issues, and I can safely say, i smash my rims.

I have 2 sets, no issues to date. The wheels are strong and run smooth.

been trawling the web looking for anything that suggests the issues mentioned by christie and others are generic to all year models of SLRs. This is NOT the case. I think to avoid providing misleading statements, please say which year model mavic. i hve 2010 Deemax and 2011 SLRs.

Some rider feedback suggests the 2009 models had hub issues, and some say the 2007/2008 models are utterly bombproof. But the complaints range across all years and models, and are typical of 'standard' issues with products. That in no way constitutes a basis for saying mavic is completely crap. Everyone has issues, just wish ppl who complain would contextualise with more product detail: make, model, typical usage/rider style goes a long long way to providing useful information.

Just make sure when you get them to order yourself a set of spokes and nipples and a set of bearings.....the bike shops don't always have stock on all the spares
