clearly has not ridden in CT winters yet. your leaving out the shades. tisk tisk.

It seems like most people covered the gear you need. My biggest asset is double layered long finger gloves and covers for my shoes, But my best advice is to get a group of friends that cycles. It is sometimes hard to get your self out in the weather and having friends that is waiting for you is a great motivator.

Very true :)

can't I go swimming between 12 and 2pm

Fortunately I have a job I have to be at during the day on M-F which is difficult to escape from for 2 hours mid-day.

just go to work 1h early and leave 1 later. then you look good because you are there when everyone arrive in the morning and you miss the worst traffic before and after :-) and you can go play in the mountains or in the pool, what ever you like.

So what are the essential pieces for riding through the Cape Town winter?

It depends what time of the day you tend to train as temperatures vary greatly at 4h30 AM vs 9h30 AM.

My fave piece of gear - knicker bibshorts for late autumn and winter.

To keep the chill off the kniekoppe.

1st proper winer riding (road) in CT so I'm going to go with:

- Giordana Silverline Roubaix 3/4 tights

- Giordana Windtex Jacket

- Burton baselayer(gotta do something with my snowboarding kit!)

- Semi winter type long sleeved jersey thing from Rose

Other bits

- Guess I'm going to need some gloves?

- Never worn shoe covers, don't plan on starting now

- Buff? Jeez couldn't they make them look like something that wasn't left on the floor of a grateful dead concert? Nope not going to do that either. Cycling cap under helmet should do.

What else?
