I get you Grebel. Will think about something else in the future. I am hoping to find a night race where I can get the lights as part of the entry or something like that. But still looking in to it.

demoing is easy, selling them is tricky

You need to demo them in theh right surroundings and the rest should follow... What about having a few at a trail centre that people can hire for a night ride? Not everybody wants to shell out R1500 for a light. A lot of people however would love to try night riding though but don't have lights. That way they could give it a bash with a decent light and perhaps purchase a light of their own based on their experience (Or carry on hiring the light which will ultamayely result in it being paid off eventually...). It has to be better that riding with a torch strapped to your bars and coming back thinking that night riding sucks...

Just a thought.

I have decent light for sticking to the road, but not nearly good enough for hitting the trails. Would really like to test the light before spending R1500 on it, and then find I am not happy about it.

Perhaps one can hire the lights at a 24 hour event?

Shouldn't be limited to a 24 hour race. Giba has a dedicated night ride night on a Wednesday but it isn't that well supported as far as I know. Probably due to the fact that lights cost money and those that have tried it had torches strapped to their bars or R150 headlamps on their helmets and went home thinking it was a k@k experience. I recently tried my hand at DH and on my trail bike it was cool. On a DH bike it was freekin' awesome! You need the right equipment for it to be a complete experience!

If i made 50 - 150% profit on what i sell I would not mind to give a few units to pay with.

I started riding at night with a small Sigma unit that had a halogen lamp. I think it did about 15 lumen? Night riding was limited to full moon but that is where i started. Some people will use a 50k bike and think MTB suck. where others will love it on a checkers bike. But it is a good suggestion and I will get out to some night spots in the next week or so.

Ja like I said, just an idea. Try before you buy.

I partly disagree, I think it is not well attended for two reasons:

1. It is not well organised and marketed at all. I know it is not a Giba initiative per se but that of the users of the park but when I got my light I found the thread referring to the rides and asked if it was still happening. This was months ago and I am still awaiting a response.

2. Durbanites are shocking at committing to anything. We have been trying to arrange Critical Mass and full moon rides in Durban and although the facebook group has 58 members there are only about 5 active! Turn out is appalling at most of these rides and most are cancelled due to lack of interest. Probably the same reason most concerts are not brought to Durban any more.

Unless you do something different you are also going to save on the light you want to give away on Facebook. You are waaay short of the required number of likes needed. Maybe 1000 likes is too ambitious based the specialised nature of the product you are offering.

Hubbers like auctions when the deal and the product are right....

Maybe try organizing something with the ASG guys here in hub, they have a night race once a month ( Midrand GP), I dont know if they sell sell lights? but it might be worth a try, I hear the race is becoming quite popular

I don't know. I started this campaign less than 2 months ago and we are on 363 so far. But lets see what happens over the next 3 months

Enter time

Enter what? Three months is a long time to keep the momentum going in order to get 1000 likes on your facebook page, maybe make it 500.
