Can I and should I run my UST tires without sealant?

I am not a very technical rider, I ride the spruit and that kinda thing.

No sealant = cheaper, lighter, less mission

No you should not, no valid reason to run without sealant. But go ahead, do it and tell us how many k's you did on the bike and how much did you walk...

Haha. Thanks for the replies.

It's time to change my sealant and I was wondering if it's helped me at all. I don't think it has.

I have tubes with sealant on my road bike I know it has saved me twice. On the mountain bike I don't think it ever has hence the question.

Easy. Ride with one of them without sealant for a year. You'll find out soon enough. Tell us how it goes :)

(Alternatively, just get the sealant.)

Haha! I've had tyre/puncture issues almost every time I've ridden the Spruit, and that's with slime. Best pack your bubble-gun so you have something to do on the walk back :D

if you say you don't know if it has helped, do you mean you never had a puncture? or you get them and have to plug a lot?

if it is the first then I say it has been working very well. just go riding with someone that has tubes and you will start to notice the differences.

I can't see how the UST will seat on the rim if there is no sealant in the the first place.

If you want to go lighter then use less sealant and replace it more frequently. Most people uses way to much.

I don't think I have ever had a puncture. How much sealant should I add? Is Stan's the best?

I rode my rear tyre without sealant for a few weeks, it lasted.

Then I had a race, lasted, and after the race in the parking lot in punctured.

But use sealant.

Thanks. What brand and how much sealant do you use?

it all depends on your tire size. I use about half what is recommended and it works, but less than that could be asking for trouble. I also replace it about every 2 to 3 months or when I do a major clean on the bike.
