  1. Any local distributors? All sites I get seem to be UK based?
  2. Hi all, My daughter's 4th birthday is coming up and I'm researching a bike for her first pedal bike. Her inseam is around 41cm so looks like 14" wheels is the way to go, my main concern is brakes. I've seen the early rider bikes, they look awesome, I love the brakes, wheels and light weight of the bikes but paying around 7k for a bike that will go to school once a week and may/may not return is a bit steep. Any other alternatives? Cheers
  3. Can you save the rest of us the trouble and share your calcs?
  4. Ion also has comfy shirts and baggies, few shops stock it. Check out brandstable in Cape Town
  5. I have the ion Rascal, the have the flat only shoe the raid that gets pretty good reviews. Chat to the guys at the brandstable
  6. This is what a gravel bike wants to be when it grows up ????
  7. Perfect for transbaviaans, karoo2coast and epic ????
  8. Same tag in and tag out system. I had one that did not pick me up immediately so that probably cost me a second, maybe two. It gets better every race. At least my draught was cold and boerie roll warm..
  9. Great event! I really like the enduro race format. Smashed by rear tyre on SS2, walked the rest of the stage. Changed the tyre (thanks Giant tent peeps), and off I went to SS3 and tons of more fun.
  10. Yup!!! Called the broken window theory. ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory) If you break any laws, stop bitching and moaning about others doing the same. You speed? You have no right to complain about crime and corruption.. as you are actively assisting in creating an environment conducive to lawlessness. Topic best to be discussed after a ride, with a beverage of choice in hand, next to a fire.. waiting for your veggies to get medium rare.
  11. Some great options if you are racing for the podium. If not for the podium why not try the Ibis Ripley V4? You can race XC and have fun on the non race weekends. I’ve heard of builds around 11.5kg with a dropper so pretty damn light. https://www.ibiscycles.com/bikes/ripley/
  12. Mmm I figured it may be too much of a compromise. Cheers
  13. Anyone using one-sided clipless pedals? Funn mambas come to mind(Ones with a proper flat platform in the one side). Thinking they may just be the solution for me to get a foot out in some tight switch backs but keep clipped in most of the time?

    2020 Ibis Ripley

Jup could be an interesting comparison. The DW suspension setup is very nice so think the ripley will climb a tad better, my V3 LS also loves to pop off anything (my skills are terible so can imagine a properly skilled rider will do much better) and apparently the V4 takes that to a different level. Very playful bike.

    2020 Ibis Ripley

Agree T-Bob, other than how expensive the bike will be I think it’s a great fit for SA riding conditions. Short stem and burly tires for the trail/enduro days and longer stem and lighter tires for long marathon/stage races.

I know!! Man that looks great! Now to start saving up ????.
  18. Awesome looking machine, I've considered replacing my ripley LS V3 for a ripmo but can't help but think it will be tooo much bike. I do the odd XC marathon and long dirt rides (Attakwas, Transbaviaans etc.) so thinking I just need to skill up on the ripley.
  19. I’d gladly join the Ibis tread ????.
  20. I assume the EWC enduro will get cancelled or moved again..
  21. Ok, I'll probably look at narrower tires for more XC / marathon type races in the future so was curious on what the wide rims can do to narrower tires.
  22. Yea the ripmo is a beast but too much bike for 80% of the riding I do.
  23. Are you running the 938 or 942 rims? My concern with 2.25 tires on a rim with 35mm internal width is that the tire may be a bit square?
  24. When just cruising around and not trying to go bos down the rock gardens I use the stock Nobbly Nicks with the blue stripe that came with the bike. Quite a few people hate the NN, not sure if that was before they brought out the addix compounds. I haven't had any issues with grip on them but then again I don't push too hard when they are on. They are very voluminous and pretty decent weight. The side walls feel thin but I've had no issues. When doing enduro I put a 2.5WT DHF on front and 2.5WT Aggressor on the back. The aggressor fits just fine but does tend to kick up rocks that hit the swing arm so you need to add some protection there. I may consider going 2.3 in future on the back. I also put a 203mm rotor on front and moved teh 180 from the front to the rear.
  25. I have one, love the bike. Pedals well, pretty light and nible yet I can do enduro on it. It won’t win any stages but awesome all round bike. I’ll be out at contermans at sunrise tomorrow. Welcome to have a look and take a ride.
