Ironman world record

Firstly what are these other events you talk about?

Firstly, I'm not talking of any other events. I was taking exception to Cameron the Chump's comments that this world record attempt was not as hard as a deca or a quin. Who gives a toss? Completing 30 ironman races in a year is a fantastic achievement if he does it and there's no need for anyone to try and belittle his attempt by comparing it to so called "more difficult" races.

I don't think this is anywhere near as challenging as a deca or even a quin. The hardest part of this is coming up with the time and money to make it happen.

I agree. This is just an excuse to do something for the year and see the world a bit, being a tri coach must get boring after a while. I don't consider it a world record if you're the only mug in the division/criteria. I reckon the whole charity angle came up only once he tried to find a way to fund it, then again ironman is full of people with more money than sense - so probably a good community to target.

A Deca is 10 Ironmen in 10 days and a quin is 5 in 5 days. There are a few of these events around the world on a yearly basis. One in the UK, one in Germany and one in Mexico. Last year there was also a double deca although I don't think it was the first time it was staged. The format for this was 20 ironmen in 30 days. This event ran consecutively i.e. a 76km swim, a 3600km cycle and a 840km run. The swim was pool based and the guys were in the water for so long that they had burns on their skin for the chlorine.

There are quite a few seasoned nutters out there who do these races, not thousands but a few hundred certainly. As a record I honestly don't think 30 ironmen in a year is that big a deal. He is the first only because no one else has bothered yet. Perhaps it has been done and we just don't know or it's been done on non WTC events.

I'm sure Reddevil will call me out and challenge me to do this before I belittle the guys achievement blah blah. Give me a year off and the money to do so and I probably would.

Wow 30 IM's in one year is pretty hectic.

I did the following in one year and found it pretty hectic as well

Argus

OFM Classic

94.7

Jacaranda Satellite classic

A few 21km running races

Walk the Talk (15km)

4 x BSG series

4 x Sasol Cross Series

Midmar Mile

Wonder how it will measure up to what these guys are trying?

Your body takes 4-6 weeks to recover from a marathon and here he has to do a Ironman every weekend at some times.

Forget about the swim and the 180km on the bike just the run will be hard on his body after the next few weeks.

That is if you race a marathon flat out. Most people doing ironmen don't. I felt sufficiently recovered after my ironmen to start running again within a couple of days.

It would be interesting to know what his times are/will be.

I GOT Legs 'like' that. Done plenty Events back to back, lots of people have. Yet I still 'Cycled to EVERY Event before even doing the Event. I did Not belittle anybody doing a Challenge to Raise Support or any Cause.

Yes, the biggest Issue I have found is Financial!

a 12:39 with an 4:11 mara must be a pretty comfortable pace for that guy.
