New Road Bike - looking for some advice please...

Hi Guys,

I am looking to buy a new road bike for doing the normal club rides once a week & races.

I've had my current bike (Raleigh RC3000) for 3 years now.

I am looking at the following 2 bikes:

Silverback Strela 1.0 (R9350)

http://www.silverbac...ACK/strela1.htm

Axis AR 30 (R9199)

http://www.axis-bike...ikes/road/ar-30

They are both around the same price, just over R9000, & very similar in specifications, but would like to get your take on it.

Alternatively, I have seen a new Silverback Monza (2011 model) full carbon & 105 group set @ R13400, so I am contemplating whether I should just spend the extra on this bike or not, as it is the same groupset just full carbon.

I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,

i bought the 2011 monza last year. one of the best road bikes ive ever had. ive done over 13 000 kms on it so far. just upgrade the saddle as its very flexy. overall fantastic value for money.

The full carbon frame really is worth the extra bucks. keep in mind the monza has a std crankset over the compact on the strela.

heres mine.

Thanks so much for the feedback, much appreciated.

Would you say R13400 is a good price for the Monza...?

Consider the Strella Concept. It is basically the 2012 name for the Monza. It is not much more than the 2011 Monza.

Agree worth the extra bucs, go for the Strela concept

Seeing as you guys are discussing new bikes can i also ask a question? I am new to road cycling, being a mountain biker myself. I see at cyclelab is a trek 2.1 (2012) model for R10500, but at the sportsbasement.co.za is also a Trek 2.1 (2012) with helmet combo for R8999. Both are Shimano 105's. Is there a difference between the two bikes, except the colour?

Or do you suggest a different type of bike in the R10500 price range?

Cycle lab's prices are always a bit more on any bike!

If u wanna spend r10500 on alloy with 105 suggest u add little more and go for Cannondale CAAD8 lightest alloy

Thanks guys,

What is your take on Giant bikes, saw a SCR with 105 groupset for R11700, alloy frame.

Sill doing my comparisons between, the Caad, Silverback & possible giant.
