Time to cut your losses and book your ticket for next year!!!! :whistling:

That's happening in Feb bru. Money is in the bank ready to go. haha. We are leaving here 25 July. Get that date in your diary.

Hopefully staying at Nantegue. Maybe we can get like 20 saffa's there at one time. We can have a South African mega train down Chavannes. Call it the Gravy Train.

Just a thought.

Would anyone be interested in doing the Mega next year?

Entries typically open in Jan and sell out in a week so if anyone is keen they'd need to start getting their ducks in a row quickly. The race is typically mid July. There's qualifying races held on the Friday with the main event on the Sunday.

EVERYONE GETS TO RACE!!!

No matter what your placing is in the qualifying heats you will have an opportunity to ride the course come Sunday. There are 3 mass start races as far as I know and your placing in the qualifying races determines which of the races you line up for and your seeding in them. So pin your quali and you could be lining up next to Dan Atherton on Sunday.

Even is you don't qualify for one of the mass start races you still get to ride down on the Sunday with a timing chip on your bike so your holiday won't be ruined by a mechanical or silly crash in the qualifying race. There might even be a call to hang back in the quali if you aren't into the carnage of a mass start dh race on ice with 499 other nutters.

Alp du Huez is about 160km from Morzine so you could combine a trip to Morzine and the mega all in one. In fact I'm sure many people do that already.

And the best part of the whole thing is that when someone asks you if you've done the epic you can say. No bru. I've done way more hardcore. I've done the Mega

haha! true bragging rights!

Man... I would love to make something like that happen!

I think a Morzine trip is definitely on the cards for next year. Whether I can squeeze Mega in too is a whole other story.

I wonder what the extra cost would be to get 2 bikes on the plane?

Or would you just take 1? If so... which one?

If I was confined to 1 I would go with the full DH bike because I know I'm not going to win Mega so may as well have a comfy-couch and something better suited to Morzine.

You aren't gonna win so to take 2 bikes would just be sooooo much admin for very little benefit.

Plenty of guys do it on full dh rigs and my focus would be the dh trails anyway so my only mod would be a dropper. I think being based in Morzine could be the way forward and drive over to Alp du Huez for the Friday and Sunday for the racing. I've done very little investigating but after multiple beers with mates last night we decided that it IS A DONE DEAL!!! Of course that was alchohol fueled bravado.

As far as i can make out it's 110euro entry fee plus of course the cost of getting there. The entry fee seems to include a lift pass for the area for the preceding week so there might be a call to be there for a week. Maybe 1 week Morzine 1 week Alp du Huez?

Just thinking out loud here. The track is 32km long. And the quali track is something like 14km long.

Just an update on our departure date for 2013. It looks like we are leaving CT on the 4th of July. So we'll be arriving the weekend of the Chatel Mountain style. Which is fine by me cos I don't want to watch that. I know how k@k I am. I don't need those okes to make me feel suicidal.
