GTC is the absolute worst piece of software around. http://connect.garmin.com is nice for storage/accumulation, but does not allow much(anything) in the line of analysis. SportTracks is the way to go! Not sure that it reads Bryton files natively though

You mean Garmin Trying Center ... yup it is crap, noting is customizable but it is freeware people cant really complain.

It does the absolute basics without any pretty pictures :( Garmin Disconnect, I dont find much better either although it has some pretty pictures via Google Earth or absolute crap Bing.

If you really want to analyze your training and have an awesome tool to assist you .. pay the $$ and get SportTracks

Bryton uses .BDX file extensions and I am not sure if that is compatible with all 3rd party software.

On a Mac? I'm having no trouble and it has plenty of features, more than connect.garmin.

Sport tracks doesn't have a Mac app.

Maybe no SportTracks on the mac then, however GTC still is the absolute pits. ANYTHING should be better than it. How about trying http://www.strava.com ?

got strava, upload my rides there also (in addition to connect), like the 3D feel that you can see in sport tracks,

show you going up a hill :)

I am looking for a new bike computer - either the garmin 500, garmin 800 or the bryton 50. Heard the Bryton aftersales is a lot better - but how do they compare, ease of use, accuracy etc?

If you have a Mac there is an app called Garmin Training Center, and there is connect.garmin.com for online.

I am finding that it offers a lot of information and is easy to set up and use.

the OP never mentioned a rotten apple, his question is purely Bryton vs Garmin. You brought Apple into the equation.

Irrespective of OS, GTC is the worst training log program out there.

heman, basically there was a topic high jack... sorry OP,

But would help him also know in addition to "should select garmin" what is options are, connect.garmin.com, www.strave.com

The problem is that Brytons and Garmins are both expensive pieces of kit, so unlikely that anybody (or just a few, due to problems with their first choice) will have ready access to both pieces of kit. This will cause everybody to only suggest the device they chose.

They question has been asked before, and the same lack of answer came out of it: http://www.thehubsa....bike-computers/

Question has been asked on BikeRadar too: http://www.bikeradar...df3bb1&start=20 Same combinations of "My device" & inconclusive responses.

We should petition DC Rainmaker to do some Bryton reviews.

I have the Bryton 50 and on Monday I contacted Ballistic trading regarding my HR Monitor that was giving me some problems. Without any issues, no hassles at all, my new HR Monitor arrived at my front door without any cost to me!! Now THAT is service considering that I am in Durban and Ballistic trading is in Johannesburg. Thank you Jason and his team! If I have to bay again, it will be a Bryton again!

I have the Garmin 500 and my mate has the Bryton, He hates the Bryton largely because of the web interface, also found the device to be a bit nigly. My Garmin hasnt given me any problems only once in a blue moon it doesnt pick up my power meter and Garmin Connect is fantastic.

Depends on your budget but from experience with both units, I'd suggest the Garmin, they are priced differently which I guess counts for something.

My only small negative comment about Bryton is that downloading a ride is a bit slow. I hope they will create a direct download/export procedure one day, so I can download the ride without having to be connected to the internet.

Other than that, I really appreciate the regular software updates and it's easy-to-use on the bike. LOVE the customizable screens so I can keep track of all my data while riding: speed, distance, HR, time, ride time, temperature. I also love that I can export a .TCX file that has HRM data that I can upload to Strava.

Keep up the good work Bryton! (and give us direct device .tcx file exports)

What functions are you talking about?

No point bashing it but not mentioning what it can't do.

Bought a Bryton 6 months ago, in hindsight should of gone with Garmin, not very happy with the product

So...12000km with both the new Bryton products Rider 50/35 through the Alps and in African conditions.

This is after having ridden with my trusty G705 since it first came out.....

The Bryton case withstood the weather and battering that a navigation/training unit like this is normally subjected to over time and fared well. Great battery life as promised bright highly customisable display, but im afraid that's where it ends....

Within 6 months both heart rate monitor transmitters failed. One was replaced successfully the other went to meet its maker..

The real downside though for us Africans is its web interfaced dependancy. If u are away from any data(GSM) network on an MTB tour or rural training camp you aint gonna be able to analyse NADA ..

Bryton are constantly releasing software updates which are humblingly painful before you can even download data..

The altitude algorithim (press alti) showed a continual 18 - 20% overread compared to my and 2 other G705's on several occasions. I contacted the Bryton agents about this before Jason took the over and am still awaiting feedback....

At this point I just went back to old reliable G705 and matched with www.gpsies.com, the combination is un conquerable...MMM looking for an 800 now...Cheers hope this helps...
