Best will be to phone the guys at Tread or get the contact details of a team manager. Have a good long with them before you do anything. Try and hook-up with someone in the industry before you approach a possible sponsor for sponsorship.

what is tread?

Your second tip: get to know the industry. :D Tread is the local mountain biking magazine. Even if it's road biking you're talking about I wold still phone them for tips.

Where do you ride? What do you ride? What do you have in mind? Are you part of a club or group?

do they contact you?

They will yes if you perform consistently, get involved in a club, most of the big clubs have a type of "race team". If you perform well through them you get noticed quicker and a lot of the times these clubs have ex pro's that can help you out. It is difficult in South Africa to get a sponsorship and sponsors are carefull to invest in riders as many have just given up in the past when goings get though.

You also need to perform at big events

Looks like our superstar still need to learn about burning bridges...

Yeah. This thread kinda gives that bit away.

Seriously though, your approach to this topic is what keep shops, brands, agents and distributors out of little league sponsorship. I would suggest you brush up on basic business approach, get some proper results going and eat some humble pie - there's always someone better. Always.

Be better than everybody else.

Brush up on your marketing skills

Send your results to the various shops/distributors. They need to see confirmed talent (not just 1 or 2 ok results)
