Today we had a second failure on a Continental tyre both have torn away at the beading resulting in blow outs one was a Mountain King and the other is a Race King 2 months old +_100km tyres inflated at 2.1 bar .Walls seem very poor and weak at the join to the beading . Has anyone else had similar problems tubes are used in them

Absolutely rubbish tyres, I had a race king and mountain king, after 600km the mountain kings knobbly's started to fall off and the race king got a 3cm diameter bubble in it. Really useless but expensive tyres, will never buy them again!!!

Are they Tubeless or the protection ones? Take them back to LBS with proof of purchase and ask them to send them to the supplier. They will have a look at them. Been using them for 3 years with no worries.

I have been using both race king and mountain king without any issues for 2 years now. Know of someone else who has been having endless problems with beading coming off new tyres

Same happened to me... because i converted a non-tubeless tire to tubeless. Almost didn't finish TransAlps because of it...

Haha jip.... een massive pop

Tyre taken to LBS Who were rather concerned. Continental not interested so I phoned Ray of Continental in JHB Who admits to seeing a lot of rub strips tearing away from the tyre wall. Promptly informed me under inflated told him that at 2.1 bar it could not be underinflated, then told me my brake blocks could have chafed the tyre ,Dear Ray I have disc brakes, Wheel rim must be rough or chafed not so ,wheel must be out of true not so . Dear Ray I now realise what I did wrong I BOUGHT CONTINENTAL as this is the second tyre that has failed in the same way on two different bikes with two different riders

That is very weird, I am a fan of Conti mtb tyres and I have had a couple over the last couple of years and have never had any issues.

I love Conti Tyres, Mountain kings are great. I have also experienced `bubbles` between the tread and tyre carcass,(MK 2.4 UST) these seem to form where punctures have sealed themselves and may be due to the sealant leaking between the tyre layers if that makes sense. Did not bother me a bit and only really noticed them when the bike was wet. Never had a tyre failure( as in dramatic blowout) from these tyres and still consider them to be one the toughest tyres ever.

I am dissapointed though with the tyre availability of Contis and every time i shop for MK 2s there is no stock. What`s up Conti?
