My son is 14 years old is currently involved with the Schools MTB challange and also doing some long ride with me on the road bike.

What energy drinks can he use. Currently is on Game and complains that his energy levels drop during the race and on longer rides.

Any alternatives...does not want to use something that will have a negative effect in years to come.

I currently use Biogen Race Mix, will it be possible to use it for him also but just dilute the mix more?

Thanks

no expert on this at all, but I'd say go for 32GI, low GI endurance energy drink. I dont think it should be harmfull to him. You can buy them in single serving sachets so it's ideal should you want to test it first

I'd also suggest 32Gi.

But I would advise you read the thread on it.

Since 32Gi is a low Gi drink it's a bad idea to mix a High Gi (like a gel) with it unless it's towards the end of a race so when the "crash" happens the race is finished.

BTW, nothing wrong with GAME though.

Enduren is fantastic for kids, all natural with no chemical additives and thus no side effects. Multiple raw products ensure a stepped energy release and thus stable bloodsugar during exercise. Check out the website www.enduren.co.za. My kids love it.

Watched on DR Oz how to make energy drinks 250ml H2O,table spoon sugar, pinch of salt and wala .I suppose you can mix Oros instead sugar to taste better?.

I use to use gels and energy drinks now make my own.when i started. If they sponsor me with it i will use it.

I suppose is all in our head and instead train more. :w00t: Why spend on energy crap (spend instead on bike parts) .

Done Lion man without and of that just refreshment on the tabel and finished 4,23 H.

The important thing is to have an isotonic mix (so that the salt content is about the same as body fluid) to ensure proper absorption. Any sugar-based substance is fine, be midful that fructose (fruit sugars) are absorbed from the intestnal tract very slowly and may cause a bloated feeling.

The sugars does not have to be low GI (e.g 32GI) during training, as it cannot cause a spike while training.

For the 'drop in energy levels' make sure he takes in enough carbs to replace what he is using... I can get you the formulae to caculate based on bodyweight if need be. The game may be perfect, should perhaps just check quantities.
