mrbaker Posted May 27, 2012 Share Just a question ...On the R59 highway passing Alberton heading south- I have seen a number of cyclists riding in the yellow line. Now I have always thought you cannot cycle on a highway? But my question is - does the law apply to the N & M numbered roads (ie; N1 or M2) or all highways? BMXER Posted May 27, 2012 Share I lived on the north coast (kzn) for 5 years- the N2 was the smoothest and safest road to train on. Passed many cops on the N2, said HI and passed by....
Christie Posted May 27, 2012 Share Depends if it is a freeway or not. For example, we may cycle on the R21 in Pretoria, up to the Hans Strijdom crossong, after which it becomes a freeway

I used to ride from Rbay up toKwambonambi and back on the N2

After that I don't think you may cycle on it.
scotty Posted May 28, 2012 Share The R59 while depicting R (Regional) is classified as a Freeway with on and off ramps and speed limit of 120km. No way should it be cycled on. Edited May 28, 2012 by scotty
