Don't know I ran 32:16 and didn't have a good day. But think it was more me than the gear. Just had a really bad day. Suffered from bad cramps at about 40km.

38x20 was NOT the right gear choice.........

A 16 cog would have been perfect! Pedalled my a$$ off today!

Second that, my HR was max spinning out at 24 /25 kph on the flats, crazy

If you want to run a 38x16, what were you doing on the 40km route.

You should have been racing with the big boys!

Just sayin'

:whistling:

If you can run that gear properly you should win the race overall.

Haha, we'll never know now will we! I am going to try a 18T cog on my next social ride and see how the legs cope.....

Seriously though, the lack of hills killed me - I am a masher, not a spinner and this course certainly had me spinning!

I'm a lot stronger than I am fit, so I really struggled.

Official time of 2h15 (moving time of 2h09) saw me post a higher than normal average speed of just about 20km/h. My legs are feeling it today.

What do you think single speed is all about.

If you want to climb you need to go and do something like Attakwas.

All I'm saying is that the route didn't suit my personal riding style, that's all. That said, I loved being out there, riding a rigid SS. Please don't see it as me complaining about the route - not at all!

Every course has it's own set of challenges that we have to deal with. That's what makes mountain biking, and in particular SS, very interesting and always challenging.

Who was the dude who won the SS cat? Is he a hubber? Orange Niner and Niner fork. What ratio was he on? I ran a 32x16 but I think a 15 would have been perfect. 2h36 in the end, had to stop twice for punctures but didn't delay me too much. My mate Edgar had a superb ride also on a 16, he was just sub 2h30.
