Busy playing with a few alternatives to Shimano's mineral oil because I think the price of their oil is just insane . Baby oil works but the brakes fade after a while , think it's something to do with the heat generated . Castrol HSMO oil also worked but I think it is to heavy and the calipers does not return quick enough . Going to try some Penzoil 5w fork oil tomorrow but I suspect it will be to light and the brakes may become spongy . I have read that a recommended alternative would be a product called Pentasin CHF7.1 but am unable to source this stuff , anybody heard of it and know where I may lay my hands on some . Any other mineral products thats out there that I can try out ?

I have been using Maxima Fork oil 5W for a few years now on Shimano Duel control brakes and now of late on the new XT brakes.

Never noticed any fade, even down the Umkomass Vally.
