Hi all.

have any of you had any experience with squeeks and groans coming from everywhere on your stumpy?

I bought mine 2nd hand recently and the owner said that it sometimes squeeks and if it does, tighten the seatpost. I have done this and it has made no difference.

he also said that the various linkages for the rear suspension had been recently replaced and did not need frequent lube. is this true?

what is the best procedure for isolating the source of these squeeks? they could come from a variety of different moving parts as there are so many on this bike!

Once you find the offending area - then treat it properly - torque, grease, carbon paste whatever it requires.

how long have you been riding it since - I service my pivots bolts twice a year - strip and lube the bearings - and re-tighten. Another source for groans is the bolt attaching the rear shock to the frame - make sure it is at the right torque

I have had the bike for four weeks and have ridden it quite a few times. squeeks only appeared after riding very hard on a seriously rocky trail in groenkloof pretoria.

i gather that the various bearings were replaced about 4 months ago.

My old Mogoose is a moaner and groaner on the trail. As indicated above, check bolts for tightness, check suspension for movement. Continued groaning means, at best, re-lube and Loctite as appropriate. At worst, new bearings. I've seen the movie a few times, it's either a ghost flick or horror, seldom a happy ending.

i am also on a mongoose.checked everything as the source of the squeaks but in the end it was my knees.i guess it is a process to determine where the sounds come from, but if i were you i would strip the bike and reassemble with lube in the right places and tightening of everything.if that does not take care of things at least you know your bike better and just live with it..
