Surprised Scarponi is riding again, he had a hard Giro a few weeks back and I very much doubt he has fully recovered, but Scarponi aside, as I am sure he has no overall ambition, I dont really see a GC competitor, seems they are pinning everything on Petacchi for a few sprint wins and then just aim to dawdle at the back.

Most unfortunate, as I think this team is capable of so much more.

Wiggo has to be the form favorite at the moment.

It also must be a route that suits his time trial strength with 2 time trials and a prologue. Fewer large mountain stages than usual will also play into his TT strengths not that he has a problem hanging in there with the best climbers though.

Love this:

@TdFLanterne: The last 2 TdF Lanternes Rouges, Fabio Sabatini and Adriano Malori, are NOT riding the 2012 edition. It's wide open.

I would love to be as strong as the last rider on the Tour.

It will most likely be one of the sprinters.

Wim Vansevenant holds the record with three, but I remember reading in a copy of Procycling about a rider who tried to deliberately lose the race to get invites to crits. Can't remember the name.

French,Belgian and Italian riders feature well in the last 20 years.

Remember Kenny van Hummel's attempt? Shame, that dude kept on crashing! Was waiting for a "They killed Kenny!" headline.

That was 2009 when he finished last in everyone of the mountain stages. His team just left him to ride on his own.He suffered every day but refused to quit like so many of the others.
