Duathlons MTB rides are generally no technical, go and have some fun (spare some legs for that second run!)

Just as triathlons are deemed running events where you have to swim and cycle to get to the start, a duathlon is even more of a running event (actually 2 - with a 'short' cycle between the two runs!)

Run is fine -off road means not on tar so a lot of running on the dirt road and walklways. The Bike there was nothing that I could remember that was too technical, just one crossing that all got off to hike their bikes. Easy course.

I've done 3 of the 4 so far - 1 road and 2 off-road. The MTB leg at Lourensford was really easy - especially if you have a 29er. The KZN MTB was proper technical stuff, and the run was more Xterra and less off-road. Last years Waterfall was really fun, and as long as the organisers don't play with the route too much it should be the same - last year incorporated a few km of the 94.7MTB of 2010, so if you did that you should be fine. Just save some legs for the second run!!!

Must say I'm really looking forward to it! Just hope I won't be broken after running my 1st half marathon the week before in knysna (yes I know its only a half marathon not the comrades but if you saw my dodgy biomechanics when it comes to running you'd understand! :whistling: )

Distance alone does not equate equate to toughness. Add more speed and short distances can be AS hard. Running rule is that as you double distance, you multiply time by 2.2 for comparison.

Waiting for some tjop to try and apply it to athletics now

Mass start for everyone back fired badly for the orgs. Lots of pushing and shoving the fIrst few 100mtrs, with LOTS moving forward when asked by the announcer for top contenders to move to the front.

Great weather and spectator friendly. Bike leg was only 24km and not technical at all, even though we saw two serious wipe outs as guys went out for second laps.

Ja I enjoyed it - the mass start was probabaly not a great idea given relatively narrow paths at the start... Other than that a really good day out - will be back next yr

Always a bit of an issue. Tjops who think they can run, that is...

I dragged my training weary legs round the course and had me some fun.

Pity the mtb course was so short - us mtberturnedduathletes would have appreciated the "bonus time". Whats weird is the organiser told us the ride would be 2x15.2km laps?!?!?!

Event this year was much bigger than last year - always nice to see.

Bumped into the Dangerous Dassie as well - he's crazy fast for a "part time runner" ;-)
