This photo was taken two months ago, tearing has since worsened a lot, the tears have also started "eroding". Have had the Mary on the bike since mid July (on the front from the start), doing 200-300km per month, trails only. So this photo was taken at ~3 months and ~750km. Will take another photo tonight.

oooh I might be interested...can you please measure the distance shown below...please measure it as a horizontal measurement and not a curvature (I assume you have one on a wheel somewhere pumped up at around 1.8-2bar)..

Thanks Jan_K

That is quite bad tearing, how are yours looking?

For reference Ben's ones look annoyingly new still.

They not SG are they, the ones from easybike, just normal Evo snakeskin?

These ones here: www.easybike.co.za/schwalbe-hans-dampf-evo-snakeskin-pacestar-26-x-2-35-tl-ready.html

Anyone that can confirm these are SG as Capricorn seems to be implying?

They could be as the SG Schwalbe tyres get the gold lettering (as per the tyre in the pic), but it could also be an incorrect picture... The SG option refers to the tyres carcass and in the add you reference they say Snakeskin EVO, so I don't think they are the SG option.

I'm currently running a 2.35 HD TrailStar up front with a PaceStar on the rear (also got them from EasyBike for the same price and they are not SG). The tyres have been good but I have also noticed the tears staring to show up on the front tyres side knobs (very similar to the pic in Jan_K's post above). None have torn off as yet. Been happy with the tyres thus far.

Mine has only started tearing a little bit. its suffering more general wear and tear than tearing. I'll post up pics tonight. Just hope i remember to do just that!

I wasn't implying the Easybike offerings were SG. Rather, I was encouraging you to get them in SG. But if you can't, its not a problem. R500 a Schwalbe tyre is pretty good local pricing.

Would love to get the SG ones, only avail online self import at the moment probably nearer R1k a tyre I reckon, must be really nice being able to drop the press so low though.

This whole tearing knobs off, which seems to often happen at the base of the knob, is related to the underlying compound not the softer top compound, the softer compound is a relatively thin layer over the base compound which is the same on all the HDs incl the SG.

But to my original question, am I being dof not going trailstar on the front, seems not much wear difference over the pacestar on the front but noticeably grippier?

This the Maxxis HR II 3C EXO i've been running as a rear tyre for about 3 months. Look at the state of the side knobs, look familiar? ;)
