I've seen people missioning around there before but never have I felt unsafe. I wouldnt ride alone there purely because of how dangerous the actuall riding can get there.

It's great to stop an look around while riding in the valley and feel like you are miles away from civilsation.

How safe is South Africa at the best of times? We get this question all the time from clients about the venues we deal with.

I have been there on my own a few times and never had any problems, but who is to say tomorrow will be the same?!

I have also ridden there before and never felt concerned. I was wondering what everyone elses feeling was about the place.

Ridden there in small groups of 2 or 3 and never felt safety was an issue! But as Pieter1 mentioned, the riding itself can be quite dangerous! People I know came across a guy having a heart attack in the valley once and apparently getting him out was a mission!

the only people i ever saw around there was sheep/cattle herders.

the rest are all mountain bikers, hikers and trailrunners.

so far i have never feared for my safety from a violence/robbery point of view.

as for a heart attack and such - i have been close - specially on scorpion hill - the hill with the sting in the tail. that last 1m of ascent nearly kills me everytime...

i have now counted 3 organ donors without helmets entering kingskloof as i am exiting...

i mostly ride there solo i reckon my ride along HP there and back on the bicycle is far more dangerous than the threat of robbery/assault
