Hi Guys,

I was about to purchase some roof racks from VW so i can get a bike rack put on and they informed me that they make alot of noise when the car goes over a 100km. Anybody here got them on their Polo and can comment? And on that note, what the best bike carrier for a Polo if one doesn't have a tow bar?

I have the Thule roofracks on my BMW have had them for about 5 years now. i drive from Fourways to Kempton everyday can hardly notice any sound. The problem is when you open your sunroof. Thule has also made a more aerodynamic rack now that reduces noise and lag. Designed similiar to an aeroplane wing. Hope this helps

They lied.

Its BS

I have them, see my post a page back with a picture... wing shaped, whatever shape, they make noise

Maybe they dont make noise without the bike carriers but I dont take the carriers off, its easier to take the whole roofrack off.

Its most likely the bike carriers themselves that make the noise.

Has it stuffed up your door seals at all?

I want to put my racks on and leave them on but not if it's going to bugger the rubber up

They are stuffed for a few days after you remove the rack but then with the sun and heat they go straight back to their original shape and you cant tell there was anything there.

Before I put the rack back on I make sure the rubber feet are super clean as well as the paint on the area of contact on the car. I have no scratches or marks and my racks have been on and off numerous times.

I landed up getting the thule wing bar and have to say its been a bit of a disaster. The noise isn't to bad but they have made my doors leak water when there is heavy ran. I have also noticed that the noise of the bar isn't bad but the car doors seem to have lost there seal so you can hear a lot of external noises.
