Good morning everyone,

We're visiting the in-laws this weekend (in Potch) and I was wondering whether there are any MTB routes in and around the Potch/Parys side?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have a great day!

Depends on what you classify as decent...

We usualy ride in the army base, but it's not very technical. It's mostly farm gravel roads in the area.

Yeah, the crater is in that area, so are the farmers on whose land you would ride! Contact me and maybe I could help?

District roasd only route:

Leaving Parys going over the bridge over the Vaal turn left following Kopjekraal road. At T junction turn left onto dirt road to keep going to Kopjekraal. At next t junction turn left to follow road to Venterskroon. Go through Venterskroon and climb up small pass. At top of pass turn round and come home the same way.

70km and 3 - 4 hours depending on your fitness.

Suikerbos Nature Reserve near Parys has hiking trails suitable for MTB. Not very long but scenic.

Also fun is the track that runs along the traintracks next to the N12. Kinda hard to explain how to get onto the trail if a person does not know the area...

I'm student in Potchefstroom and I can't find any proper singletrack or downhill trails in Potch. Can anyone help? It sucks coming here from Cape Town and having no where to ride...

Thanks

sad to say but there arn't any to speak of. Nothing propper at least. The army base and district roads is your only option. There might be trails on private farms that I don't know about though.
