Any idea on cost of these bikes ?

I leaning towards the raleigh purely as the price is more of what im looking to spend as it will only be used occasionaly when i cant get on the MTB, obviously there are cheaper bikes but not many still with 105 components on

IMHO there's no difference between the two bikes, well not that 99% of Hubbers would feel on a ride anyway. So save yourself the money for some upgrade later.

If I was you, Ask the shop to weigh both bicycles and see if it is worth to pay more or not. If the Merida is alot lighter than Raleigh, it is worth to pay more. If the weight are not much different, I will go for Raleigh. Good luck!

If t is for training then the extra weight will be to ure benefit. Not sure what everyone is so hungup on weight for. Most could lose more weight before the ride if they got up earlier and sat down a little longer.

Note to cunning linguist:  Do you want to be called that at a hub ride in front of your friends and family?  If not change your handle before your true Identity gets known by other hubbers.  And don't say you were a diver in the Navy.

Why spend the extra 2 K if you are only going to use it every now and then..If MTB is your thing then buy the raleigh for road and rather spend the 2k on some more bling....
