yes...nice for base training...not very exciting route, but good distance

105 odd km if you do up and over breedts to the shop with about 1100m of climbing

What he said. Utterly boring though. If I'm not mistaken, Rouxtjie has a nice Endomondo map :)

100kms to the top and back. Did it before sani and I really believe it's those long rides that made the difference on Day 2.

Ta thanks Leon

Yes that is the one, that workout of mine just goes to the top, but I will show you the way to get to the Nek's turnoff from VG. The shop is obviously another few km down and then go back up.

+1 on what Ricky said....its flippen boring but +1 what squire said...this is essential for base training...if you doing a stage race in the near future make it part of your training plan...you won't be sorry.

If you want to make the ride tougher less boring, take the single track back

Fixed hehehehehhe. I actually thought of doing the greek church loop on the way back....but you need to make that call when you get there. It will be a big day. Good for epic training i skeem

Its boring as hell but, as its been said above its good base training and not too bad if you take the single track back to VG.

Take a buff with because if you're on that long *** district road with buses and the odd truck be prepared to spit a few mud balls after they have passed.

Once you go over breedts nek and down the back end to the tar road and do the section on the other side, by the time you back at VG its about 130 odd kays if memory serves me correct.

I did get chased by some little stoep kakkertjie on the otherside of that tar road, I was doing about 35km/h and this little mini daubermann was in hot persuit, I slowed down because I couldnt stop laughing.

All this info is very handy thanks!

So is most of the ride to the Nek actually next to the tar road? Only for the turn-off past the garage does it become gravel or am I misreading the map?

Hey I have never tried that loop, but with the monster this year I have a fairly good idea of where it is. Good info there, +1 on the mud in your nostrils....my snot rockets become clay balls teehee

Nope not next to the tar road, there is a district road that runs parallel with that tar road...check on that workout of mine posted above, you basically join that tar road just before the garage. You can try and do it next to the tar but I wouldn't suggest it(I have done it one or twice). The shoulder isn't that wide for one and non existent in some places, the cars drive moer fast on that road and you pass an informal settlement that is dodge(I think they are protesting there right now) so its not worth it.
