I ride a 32x18 and it's perfect. The place looks flat enough from the outside but you're likely to spend 90% of the ride standing up (second gear) with a 32x16.

29er of course. If you have a 26" SSer don't bother showing up cos we'll throw rocks at you.

And it must be steel.

And shiny.

one should throw stones at other single speeders, no matter what what wheel size.... but rather if you want to throw stones, there will be plenty of lazy people with gears ....

Ack ack 26" rider AND road rider? Jeez dude - why not just tell us your parents are australian and ruin your street cred forever?

32x17 (if you can find one!) for the 26er I reckon.

nopes, my brother adopted Oz. I'm born and bred Boertjie and man enough to admit all of that without worrying about the perception of street-cred as held by others!

Jeez dude - how many 26ers and road bikes have you owned?

My steel 650B won't be ready. You will have to put up with an ally 26er.

Cool, I'll be giving this a miss then with my steel, shiny, orange Cotic Soul 26" SS. :P

Will take my clapped out Raleigh RC2000 and go hang with the roadies at Lost City rather

Sir Maxxis - that does indeed qualify - I had a Swift myself until it threw me off and I did the nasty to my right rotator cuff - we broke up shortly after that...

@tedi and the others - ahh this is the reason I like the SSer culture - nobody takes anything too seriously

@robo - I'm half irish "I'm black and I'm proud!!!!"

@slick - oi! I've spent many months trying to recreate myself as an aloof and cool 29er SSer dood. Don't ruin it for me!*

*or tell anyone I'm spending more time on my TT bike than anything else at the moment. In my defence - it is a 29er. But carbon.

Am I ghey?

JC, the way this thread is going, you better make it known that this isn't a SS only ride.

Edit:

@Eldron - remember when a steel 29er hardtail was the only option? :P

A bit excessive? :D What caused the fall?

You mean the ones with Columbus 708, 853 and 653 stickers on them? Wicked cool those bikes

I'm going to blame a big rock but I think my lack of skills pointed me in the direction of said big rock in the first place...

The Swift helped me realise I don't have the skill or patience to ride a fully rigid bike - I want to smash everything at high speed which is not a good idea on a rigid bike. I sold the Swift and got a Niner MCR with bouncy thing on the front.

Ah ok. Makes perfect sense. I used to ride full rigid bikes a lot when I started in the 90s. We had not choice. Was all we could afford.

Now in my old'er age I quite enjoy it but not enough to get rid of the cushy dual suspension.

/end hijack.

My own thread is being hi-jacked by SS'ers!

This is open to everyone - I myself do not have a SS'er so I hope I am not the only one

Sorry Joe :P
