I did a little research before buying, a colleague bought it a week before at the normal price :( . Its pretty solid. Its better designed then the Edge 500 and has better specs.

Because it has a barometer your altitude (relative) measurements are going to be much more accurate. Also it has if i remember correctly 6 display 'widgets' on the main screen so you get a lot of data of the bat, the usuals, and gradient, heart rate, cadence etc. You can also preload routes onto the unit and it will direct you (that's what I'm told).

Plus the fact that its GPS means you can just buy an extra bike mount and swap it between mtb/road/whatever. Obviously the cadence sensor will be fixed (or mostly fixed).

Look around and bike computers, this is the price of a non-gps computer.

Dont really want to make this another Garmin vs Bryton war but it seems like your research has let you down in certain areas, so I might just have to:

Garmin offers 8 different pieces of data per page. There are 5 pages. Each customizable and there are 61 options vs Brytons 30.

Garmin also uses a Barometric Altimeter so I cant see how the Bryton will be "much more accurate"

Courses can be uploaded to the Edge 500, no problem.

Garmin comes standard with two bike mounts in the box, no need to buy a second for the other bike.

"Its better designed then the Edge 500 and has better specs."

Have my doubts, technologically the Garmin is much more advanced and better designed, using more complex and accurate calculations.

The only other spec the Bryton has is Interval Training/Training programs. I would hardly call that better specked.

Then you also have the file systems. Garmin uses .FIT files which is compatible with most 3rd party software. Where Bryton created their own file system .BDX which is not yet compatible with most 3rd party software. You have to upload the file to Bryton's web and export it back to a usable file like .GPX and then import it to your 3rd party software.

So found the price. 3500 vs 1400. I think in the case of this special your argument is moot. Even if you're right, would you pay an extra 2100 for a slightly better device?

I don’t think you can do better than R1400 at this stage, unless you go second hand, and I for one can't wait for mine to arrive!

They say 4 weeks just to cover them self - if they say 1 week and it don’t come a lot of people will be pissed where as they say 4 weeks and it comes in 2 everyone happy - over commit under deliver (we in IT are kings at this).

Simple, you get what you pay for.

And to answer your second question, yes I did pay and extra R whatever and will do it again no doubt.

It is a good deal, but i already have garmin 705, Nike GPS sports watch plus my HTC cellphone capable of doing similar, i cant justify getting another.

it can do xy z and Q where 99% of people just use it to record their ride and thats what i mainly use it for. I have uploaded a ride to my bryton once to follow and it worked. As was said above - at this price - its a huge bargain. Big plus for me is that it recorded al three days of sani2c without needing to be charged - and no our time was not less than 15 hrs!

I also orded one. Despite having an awesome Suunto M5, Endomondo on my bb, and an i-gotU, I justified getting this based on all the features and the price. Plus, I am on a mega training spree and the extra data will help me analyse my weaknesses and strengths and of course my progression.

Does anyone know if the Bryton will work with my Suunto HR strap (think its Ant + cause it works at the gym)? Be nice to have my watch + bryton recording hr. Yes, I like to analyse things to death.
