If anyone is interested, I have an unused Nukeproof 760mm flat bar (silver) that I won at SASSC.

Pity it doesn't have a rise , if any one else has a nice wide bar to sell with a decent rise , preferably 35mm , hit me up with a PM!

I use some Gravity bars which are about 725mm.

You sometimes have to go for a slightly shorter stem because the wider bars pull you more forward. It ll adds to the increased control.

Yeah, i do. It's a 2008 felt q620. The year before they hydroformed the hell out of the tubing, and the year that they gusseted and welded it more than a current day nuclear sub. It's helluva strong, and I've converted her to 1x9 and put a 150mm ork on the front.

Here she is with the IDT wheel on and my dh bike's front wheel. Normal wheels are white spank subrosas

And a pic with the old fork, a 120mm Reba

For AM I'd say 740mm with 20mm rise. Spank Spoon. That's what i run on my AM rig and it works great.

On my way back from the Alps now where I was running 780mm with 10mm rise on my DH rig (Renthal Fatbar), and even those are fine for the twisty windy of the French Forests.

Hells yeah, Renthals rock. I probably should have gone for 20mm rise in stead of 10.

But hey, cutting yours down to 720mm is sacrilege! Haha

I just bought the 20mm rise ones like 30min ago

Anything 710mm +

My 5 BOB is also depends on your shoulder width. No point running 800m & you got 200m shoulders :whistling: .The width your arms stretch out comfortably is good.

But theres no rulz

For a trail bike I would run between 685mm-720mm(Small - large rider). Wider than 720mm on some of the JHB trails means you need pin point accuracy on some of the tight stuff.

Wider bars slow your steering, so I would also recommend going to a shorter stem to speed it up. Not to mention the wider bars will also pull you forward on the bike as you stretch further forward.

Wider bars make more sense in gravity riding where you require more stability at speed (Hold your line better and allow you to muscle the bike a bit more easily).

My personal preference on a trail bike would be 720mm wide with a 70mm stem (I'm 183cm tall). The 70mm stem is great because it still keeps enough weight on the front of the bike that it doesn't sacrifice climbing ability that a shorter stem would. If you ride a small or medium frame, a 50mm-60mm stem would be a good bet. Good way to check you aren't too far back is: While seated in your normal position on the bike, look at the front of your stem (where the bar is clamped) and then past it to the front hub. For a trail bike, I suggest the hub either line up with or sit just forward of the handlebar.

Too wide a bar will leave you with a sore middle back if you aren't up off the saddle enough. Plus you aren't in a particularly aero position if you plan to ride longer open trails.

My two cents

Keep your eye on the headtube junction  ... That frame is not designed for that much travel..... Most frames give you a 20mm lee-way in either direction. Just a heads up...

Rofl. Dude, it's over designed. In fact, they did away with all that gusseting at the front when they started hydroforming.

And trust me - it's gusseted to hell. Not only are the top ans down tube welded so cleanly and beautifully, but there's a 150mm gusset below the down tube that has been welded in place. It's got more strength in there than a mate's trance.

But keep an eye on it i shall

R792 for Loaded... eish! I'd rather have Renthals or Chromags for that kinda cash!

Ye way pricey, but then ive never spent more then 300 rondt on bars  .Nice octanes for 180 rondt @ CRC,only 710 wide tho .

I have 710mm Easton Havens on my Reign with a 50mm stem. It makes the bike very playful. I also did Sani2c with this setup, so it is very comfortable for me.
