Avoid the Evos at all cost. Had two of them blow on the rim. The snake skin are fine. But I think there is a manfacturing issue with the Evos or just use them on Jeep tracks.

Sidewalls are too thin, I pushed my luck for a month or 2 but ended up getting the snakeskin. So far so good!

Amazing how many mtb'ers still think that you go faster on thinner, harder tyres.

Looking at the entire thread and my problem in general - care to elaborate, add suggestions? I am not trying to go faster by increasing tyre pressure, but rather to avoid "Burping" tyres?

Others have already given you good advice.

I was just commenting on some of the statements about the belief people still hold on to that harder, thinner tyres are have less rolling resistance and are faster.

But since you've asked I'll try and offer my 2 bits.

You haven't mentioned (unless I missed it) what rims you have. As others have said, the tyre-rim combo is also important. I actually feel your concerns since I am also on the heavier side (6'2" ex rugby player). My wheelset is RR snakeskins (2.25 width) + ZTR Crest rims + Hope Pro 2 Evos. I run my front tyre at about 2.2 bar and my back at about 2.5.

I've never had a burp.

I run the front slightly softer so that (1) it has more grip for cornering and braking and (2) so that in a corner my back will 'let go' before the front does.

And if I'm going on a long solo ride I will go a fraction higher in tyre pressure. Self explanatory.

schwalbe, not very popular for running tubeless unless the snakeskin version i think.

Not so!

I run the cheapest, nastiest ralphs as tubeless and i have never had a problem... However i run them on american classics...

Whith "blow out" do you mean the tyre "burped" (blew out between rim and bead) or the tyre failed?

What rims were/are you using?

Pressure sounds OK for your weight, it's what I use on my rear wheel and I'm 101kg. I ride 1.8 in the front.

Reading some of the pressures people much heavier than me are running, it looks like my tyre pressures might still be too high

I always used EVO's and they have served me well, but then the terrain i ride on is not as harsh as in SA where your rocks tend to be sharpier, here they are more rounded off.

The EVO Ralph's and Rons are a racing tyre and made as light as possible (thinner sidewalls) and as a result have less puncture resistance.

One problem that catches people out with EVO's is that when making them tubeless you need to be patient and redo them a few times to seal the sidewalls properly and even then they still loose pressure over a few days.

Next time I'm gonna use snake skin Rons or even the tubeless specific, their grip is fanatastic but just tired of the porous side walls.

I have run Evo's for a while, (on AC's and Giant rims) did Sani etc.

I run low preasures, 1.6 fron and 1.8 back.

But when installing, pump to 3.5 bar with lots od stans.

Turn and shake the wheels a lot. then leave them horizontal for a night on each side.

Then ride once at hi preassure, and then drop to desired prassure.

Have burped once, when shop did the instal, used slime, and no doubt did not follow my protocol.

I am 62kgs though
