Yeah, the rigid was pretty punishing! Jules was a beast as usual. I am trying to work out where I came. Did 2h43 and only know of Jules in front? Were there others? Jules said he heard there was someone in front of him!? Surely not?

I don't know how you guys running rigid SS coped on tht course? I got beaten up on my geared hard tail. Running my tyres too hard didn't help either. I think it was Jules on a silver Niner came past me early on at a huge speed and towards the end as I was starting to fade badly another one passed me. Jcmeyerss - you the guy with the black beard?

Correct. I'm the guy that started with a black beard it was kind red and brown by the end.

My apologies if I held you up I stayed left as much as possible.

Ahh that was an awesome ride! Was under strict instructions not to push hard so I rode steady - its a pleasant change to finish without bleeding from the eyeballs :-)

Met up with loads of hubber including the other SSers - jcmeyer and Divernick.

The rigid fork was a bit harsh - my biceps hurt!!

I think I was TimH at the start - silver Ragley? With a carbon Niner fork?

Now the orange machine goes into storage until SSWC2012. That is going to rock. Supremely!

Was it someone on the hub that I passed yesterday? As I rode past him i asked "how's the bike treating you?" It was a rigid and I think it might of had a green jockey on the chain tensioner. I was wearing Vodacom shirt (red and black) the guy also asked if I was doing the 70km and stated that he was suffering a bit...

To be honest with all the dust, ruts, rocks and bricks in those first few km's I didn't pay too much attention to bike detail. It was silver, SS and way faster than me.

Respect to all you guys who rode that route on rigid bikes.

My decision to fit a rigid chromo fork on my SS (wif v-brakes) is going to come back to haunt me at SSWC. But hopefully I won't be feeling too much pain after the first "water" point :whistling:

I'm fairly certain it was Jules that passed you - he is crazy fast on SS, road, geared, wheel chair or anything with wheels really.

Sounds like you have th perfect bike for SSWC!

@jc - my pleasure sir! Many more to be shared in Winterton!

Hey Eldron, yeah I was on a Ti iSpydafly frame with a Niner fork. Jules makes us look silly, he is unbelievably strong! I had lunch with him afterwards and he ordered a rump. Not sure if it was Spanish beef though.

Well done to all on SS bikes, good job.

Jules 21st overall in 2h36 - well done!. As a matter of interest what gearing were you running?

Methinks that winner's tattoo at SSWC has got its eyes on you!

The steak and carbo loading clearly worked for him as he won the VA D2D today, albeit not on his SS :)

Yeah, saw that. What a freak. Jules was on 32x15 but told me that he was under-geared! I was on 34x16 so pretty much the same, thought it was about right for the course.

I agree. Thought there was gonna be a bit of singletrack so rode 32:18. Spun about 3years off my life. Haha
