I've seen one listed for 3 500 Great British Pounds. I think Schwinn did make one. And somebody rode the 94.7 when I did it about two years ago.

The original Schwinn "chopper" was the Sting Ray. That and the Excelsior were among the most popular frames used by the early mountain bikers - turned into klunkers - and the geometry of the bikes became the template for the first purpose-built MTBs. Schwinn revisited the original Sting Ray some years back, and also introduced the easy rider version posted a page back, including one endorsed by OCC. Cool bikes. I have one…

Tumbleweed, before I believe it, you'll have to supply more proof that choppers "were among the most popular frames used by the early mountain bikers - turned into klunkers - and the geometry of the bikes became the template for the first purpose-built MTBs". It's difficult to believe that a weirdly unstable thing like the chopper gave birth to the modern mountain bike.

Try my mountain bike. Proof enough.

Anyone remember the Western Flyer Mean Machine. Shocks. Twist Grip gears and a pretend petrol tank.

jeepers, the bike, the outfit, the furniture, the house - that kid could have been pretty much any one of us born around about 1980

Actually road bikes gave birth to mtbs, just ask Mr Fisher and his jean wearing, long beard, pipe smoking hippy friends.

But gone are the days of baggy pants and leg hairs, from the get go, all they ever wanted to be, was roadies!
