I did the one in Cape Town last year - was a little expensive but well organised and well run on the day. They have done a couple of races at Sun City before so they are quite legit

Did the Sun City one last year, totally legit. Good race, swim in one of the best I have done. Bike is average (bit of wind) but the run is a proper test in the heat.

Highly recommend this race, really worth it. Have to skip it this year for Linkin Park (lame)

Great stuff, thanks. So you would say it is ok - as far as one can be certain of these things - to bank on the race happening again next year, i.e. it is ok to fill it in on my training/racing calender?

Did the Cape Town one this year.

Kricky that water was cold.

The only thing I didn't like was the use of the road that leads to Melkbos. Very bumpy. Would be nice if they used the road going in the opposite direction. I.e. Toward Cape Town.

Other than that, great event.

I have done 2 sun city races and enjoyed both. Swim and bike legs no problem. Sun city will never be a wet suit legal race. Bit of drafting going on during the cycle leg. I dont think the refs for this race are quite as hard core as the refs from 5150. The run is quite challenging. All in all a good day in the sun. Nice venue. Good organization.

yeah i think the water was 10 deg or something that day.Fortuntely im a decent swimmer so was out of their chop chop (no pun intended). The road is actually pretty decent when compared to most others imo. but pretty boring doing multiple laps

They have been going since 2008 I think, totally Legit and a good day out.

Nice swim, Flat Bike, Tough Run in the Heat along the Golf Course.

Best is the Free entry to the Valley of the Waves..save some energy for that.

Lol.. thanks. Was interested in the Cape Town one, but I could maybe still go for some surfing afterwards?

Its a really awesome race, I have done the last 2 at Sun City. Unfortunately the cycle is out on the road(no Shoulder) and sometimes there can be glass on the course. The run is tough, last year they recorded 41 degrees in some places. All round - its a great race and if I was you I would do it for sure.

32Gi will be dished out on route and at the finish extensively, so no matter how hot you will be taken care of :-)

Anyone doing this for the first time ? the run is HOT and HILLY so be prepared. Swim and cycle easy.

I will be there. Been working hard on those brick sessions especially hilly brick sessions. Kyalami race track is the perfect place for this. A quick 10 laps gives you 42km's followed by 2 hard and fast laps of running w00t.gif will sort you.

Just to amend my post above. NO I wont be at this years event. Just got a shocker : price tag for entry is R750 eek.gif

Theres no way I'm paying R750. Things are really getting out of hand here. Last year it was about 55 dollars which equated to just under R500. I suppose the organizers are trying to make up for lost revenue for last years race when the timing equipment failed and they opted to refund competitors some of the registration fees. Well I'm not impressed. cursing.gif
