amarider does not use the regular timing but their own tags, so your ride doesn't reflect with the usual racetec timed rides, why can't all these associations pull in one direction? :cursing:

i like the way you say amarider does not use "regular" tags - by that assertation are you saying that anything not racetec is irregular?

its a competitive world out there and no single timing company should have a monopoly. Ideally though, different companies should be able to read the chips of other companies...but that is also not just as simple as that - as different timing companies are using different technologies. That said, 90% of them are saying no to sharing chip codes so that whole thing is a bit pointless anyway

AFAIK the whole trailtag thing came about because AMArider were sick of the monopoly, so designed them inhouse.

i have stopped doing races and bought myself a trailbike so all this license, tags, entryfee etc things are no longer in my mind.I now just ride my new KHS mtb and enjoy riding with some friends.

last amarider ride had riders ensure their wrist tags registered across the start mat, made a single track bottle-neck look like the autobahn, agreed on the point of sharing timing though.

exactly my sentiments

I hope you're not serious ?? The further we can keep government, regulation, ministers, etc away from sports (especially the amateur "funrider" kind), the better!

I've wondered why they decided on tags on you arm and not feet - would mats be more expensive or just impractical in off-road situations?

just entered Engen dynamic cycle ride, CSA needs membership or day license, my PPA membership doesn't count, amarider does not use the regular timing but their own tags, so your ride doesn't reflect with the usual racetec timed rides, why can't all these associations pull in one direction? :cursing:

Couldn't agree more, so tired of having to pay X amount extra for each flipping race. So far it's been (and these are the ones I remember):

  • CSA
  • PPA
  • TSA
  • WPA
  • RaceTec Chip
  • Spectrum Sport Timing Chip
  • Whatever board thingy they're using at the MTN Gravel Travel
  • Whatever armband thing they were using at Die Burger MTB
  • Temporary License whenever the organisers feel they haven't sucked you dry enough

I've lost count of how many times I've bought licenses and chips.

I really, really wish there was 1 body to whom I could pay a yearly fee and get it over with.

the mat readers get a very poor read rate and the tag has to be very close to the mat to read
