As I am about to re-enter the cycling world after an absence of about 16 years I am reading all there is to know about the newer things to know since the last time I was on a MTB.

 

Out of curiosity, will 26 inch rims fit on my 29er? Why? Curiosity I suppose...

Yes, you could but why would you want to.

 

Smaller wheels are lighter, stiffer, cheaper, more manouverable, stronger and fit shocks that are smaller, cheaper, stronger, lighter, stiffer... Hey one of these days they will sell frames to fit these amazing small wheels!

You forgot that the above, will fit in frames that are smaller, cheaper, stronger, lighter, stiffer.... and more manoeuvrable.

Yes its been done - makes a bike with lower center of gravity that utilizes the 29er long wheel base for a more stable ride. Been a couple mods of this one of the overseas magazine websites.

 

Not great for something like a Santa Cruz with a lower pivot link - will be smashed to bits on rocks.
