IMO there is no comparison between the Amashova and the other 2.

I did my first Amashova yesterday, it was an OK race, but not one I would rush back for. The 94.7 is much better, and the Argus is much, much better.

The Amashova is tiny in comparison to the other two, the atmosphere is nowhere like the other two, parts of the route are a bit iffy from a road quality point of view.

I hope the story about the attempted bikejack on a backmarker is just that ~ a story. If it's true, it's a piss-poor reflection on the organisers for leaving the poor sod out there to look after himself.

Not worth the 1000+km of driving as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I agree 100%

Well said Falco.

No food at the tables, water (if avail) was warm.

Not worth it. Rather put the extra bucks towards the Argus.

Third Shova I did yesterday and will be back !!!

Yesterday was my worst race - ever but it had nothing to do with the organizers. I have a mechanical which made my day a little bit of a nightmare.

That being said I did appreciate the support vehicles.

There were a few bumpy sections but most races have these.

All I wonder is how the guys in Durban / North coast manage to do a 100km (road) ride ????

I enjoyed the race and was chuffed it didn't rain!! Did a better time than last year managing to come in with a 3:04 from B group, unfortunately I couldn't hold the group I was with after about 75kms (maybe the few beers I had at beach bums were to blame) otherwise I would've broken 3hrs but I will be back next year to try again.

It's a good weekend away!!

Clay, where did you get dropped? The front of B caught up to the 2nd group in A and we rode the last 50k or so together.

What happened?

Broke my chain at 34km. Then a support vehicle stopped and installed a quick link.

1km later my chain broke again. Eventually another support vehicle stopped and installed a new chain.

I stood on the side of the road for 1:40 and then did the last 70km alone.

To be honest not sure exactly where (sorry I'm not to familiar with the area) but it was after a one of the descends where I dropped back a bit because I'm not the most confident descender and I didn't have enough in the reserve to catch the group again but it wasn't the front B group, it was probably about the 3rd bunch from B.

Just about everybody passed me

At least I managed to complete the race. To have gone all that way to do 34km would have been seriously cr@p !!!!

I didn't see any crashes.

Did see one lady lying in the middle of the road but the medics were around her. She was alone.

When I eventually got a new chain and was mobile again I was overtaking a lady on a MTB and while she was taking a drink from her bottle she lost balance but somehow managed to unclip but the bike fell over.

That XPS banner also got me, I thought that was the finish just to realize that I still had about a km to go.

We could not have asked for better weather. Did the race from C group. Bettered my previous time (8 years ago) by 30 minutes (3:34). Wife and son's picked me up at the finish and spent the day on the beach at Umhlanga. Road surface was a bit rough somewhere along the route but other than that, thanks for a well organised race

My folks saw an attempted bike hijacking at about 1:30 just after fields hill near the steel mill. They saw 3 guys run across the highway to try take a bike from one of the backmarkers, unfortunately they couldn't stop and help out so they were not sure how it ended up. Hope the backmarker is okay!

Eish!

That's rough.
