So Santa is busy doing research for flymango's wife. She wants an all round device which can measure HR, has GPS for distance and speed, and can be easily used for both cycling and running (i.e. probably a wrist device).

Any recommendations? I don't even know where to start. I use a Polar myself, but I'm not a runner and don't really miss GPS.

Ms JGR got me the bryton cardop 35 - works for cycling and running, is waterproof, and half the size and weight of the garmin 310 or 910 and Sunto Ambit (half the price as well). I used it purely to measure ect and not the actualy training function

I mainly do cycling and bit of running, but not swimming, so I bought a Polar RC3 2 days ago.

It is wrist unit, Lightweight, but not recommended for swimming as it is not waterproof. That is the reason why I decided to go for this "all-in-one" device.

I went out for a ride yesterday. When I got home download ride onto polarpersonaltrainer. Then I found out it does do everything except elevation.

I did research and found out this device does not barometer and cannot do elevation while riding. (That is semi OK). I then thought I can see elevation within polar dairy, still not. I've exported the GPX file from the device, and import it into Google Earth, and only there you can see the elevation. I'am disappointed due to the fact it does not plot the elevation within the polarpersonaltrainer software. It does plot the route onto google maps, but not the elevation.

I'am still researching a way to combine the elevation into my diary... It is not nice to have 2 sets of data at different locations. It elevation is not important for you, and you not going to swim, then this device is nice.

910 is better and they are great watches, but the 310 is huge, heavy and hardly resembles a watch. It reminds me of those old watches they doubled as calculators.

310 is available cheap because of the 910 - yes I remember, wasn't it a casio?

Casio had the good ones but there were a host of 'cheaper' version! 901 is the business and has better swimming feature and looks like a watch. Horses for courses.

She got it on that Groupon special a few weeks back from R1400, it came with a HR belt. I paid the extra R899 for a dual cadence and speed sensor as well as watch mount for the bike (R150).

I think they are about R2500 at the shop ....

The Timex Ironman GPS watch is about R3500

Sunto Ambit and 901x are R5k+ depending on accesseries

Ive checked the distances a the end of raes against polar and garmin and its very much on bar for distance ect.
