Enduro and Endurance

Recommended Posts

Endurance - doing as many laps as possible in a predetermined time frame (typically 3, 6, 9, 12 or 24 hours)

Bring: Lycra and a 29er

Enduro - liason stages (climbs) which are typically not timed (and may include partial uplifts) with extended timed downhill stages (possibly including some flat or climbing sections)

Bring: Knee guards and a 140-160mm travel rig

Read an article in a bike mag today where they referred to the first one as "Enduro". In fact, to be fair the race organisers referred to it as "Enduro", the mag was merely reporting. But if we're ever going to grow the magnificient discipline of enduro in SA, we're going to need to know the difference.

I know, I'm nitpicking. But hey, it's been a long week. Do you think I should email said mag and point out their mistake? whistling.gif

Ja. Agree. And race organizers should also stop plagiarizing names like Rampage and using words like "extreme" when the race takes place on dirt roads.

Do it. Tell them to cover a bit of overseas enduro so that people can see what its about then maybe we will get some enduro races hapenning here!

We were chatting about the whole Enduro thing this morning.

I really hope this takes off, but organizing it has huge red tape.

So if someone bites the bullet and goes for it, we really need to support it. Even if that means I come ride it on my XC bike and takes the slower chicken runs on some of the big features.

Something like the 3day enduro that Meurant and Co are planning for Dirtopia. We need to get critical mass for these events...

Agreed 100%. I'm nowhere near fit enough to do the 3 day enduro but i'm gonna give it a bash anyway.

In SA we simply don't have the vertical for real DH so enduro for me is a great alternative. Hopefully the xc guys embrace it cos that's where the real numbers are and they can move away from the sort of "dirt road" races that are the current vogue.

I can't be at the Dirtopia event this year, which is a big bummer, but if I could, I would! Friends are going though!

I love the idea of enduro, and I'll ride any events I can (and help organise, build, whatever!).

By the way, editor replied and they're planning to do some enduro related articles soon ;)

Because of the nature of the event, it should actually be limited. Singletrack cannot cater for masses especially in an event. ...That or XC riders really need to brush up on their ST skills! It's frustrating and kills any sort of flow if you must walk through a bottleneck only to find it was a 1ft step down - understood to be just that; get off the bike and "step down".

BRAAP!

hey guys, i was at the dirtopia enduro, it was awesome !! the only issues really involved in such an event are the stages, you need to time from start to finish of every stage.

getting ama rider involved will actually be quite crucial (but doubt he has time and what premium will he ask for the tag system?)

and lets say the event isnt in cpt then what do you do? go all old school and put kids with stop watches and every start and finish and what if they screw things up? and who wants to edit and add every entry, and what if it is a one day event and you still have to give prize giving but you are still busy editing all the results two hours after everyone is done?

i have an enduro in mind here by me which would be a one day 5-6stage 40km event, what are your guys views of overcoming the numerous obstacles in hosting such an event?

years back before 'marathon' when there was a 'one big loop ride' they called it enduro, marathon really is a stupid name for a bicycle tournament....

Your start time gets written on your board at the top and your end time at the bottom for each segment. All the boards gets handed in at the last segment and the times addedd into a spreadsheet by a sexy lady.. The manual way.
