Hi Guys,

Any suggestions on where to find a good beginners training programme for Argus 2013. Will be on a Mountain bike and just looking to finish comfortably.

Thanks a million

My 2 boys of 11 and 12 did their first Argus with me this year. All I did was to let them ride virtually all the PPA Sunday races starting in December and running up to the Argus. For the first 2 months they did the short 30 - 50 km routes. Therafter they started doung the 60 - 80 km races. Their longest ride was 90 km 2 weeks before the Argus. They were perfectly prepared and had a wonderful Argus. I think this could work for anybody just wanting to enjoy it and finish comfortably.

This is about as close to a "training program" as you need to get.

Get on the bike, do a distance you're comfortable with.

A week later, go 5-10% further.

A week later, another 5-10%.

Make sure you don't over exert yourself, of course.

On the 4th week, taper off a bit, spin the legs easy.

The next month you follow this again.

Make sure you get some riding done in the wind, on hills and flats.

A group ride and a couple of races is a must. The guys are nervous so you need to be able to ride with other people comfortably.

sounds like you've already got the right attitude which is accounts for about 90% of the training - these guys are giving good advice already so my only addition is to enjoy the day - it's an event, not a race.
