I agree, between the 3 races there is probably place for about 3,500(?) riders. I entered on the minute the entries opened for all 3 races and still ended up on the waiting list for all 3. They could probably increase the price by 20% next year and still sell out all 3 + add a 4th race.

Slightly off topic - how do you get on the waiting lists for these races (S2C ect) How do you know when the entries opened, did you have to pay to get on the waiting list?

For S2C specifically the time entries opened was advertised on the website. It's actually also worth following them on Facebook or/and Twitter because that keeps you up to date of what happens when. If you entered but didn't get in you are automatically put on the waiting list and seems they pick people randomly from the waiting list if there are cancellations (no cost to be on the waiting list).

As I understand the waiting list is now closed for new entries but there are always cancellations close to the time of the race so there might be some last minute opportunities to get in with entries being sold on thehub/gumtree (wasn't really an option for me given the logistics of getting to the race from Cape Town)

Are there any other 2-3 day stage races that are easier to get into that anyone can suggest?

Is it worthwile entering , or are the chances just tooo slim?

Berg and Bush (its happening this weekend). There is a 2 day race, plus 2 3 day races. Easy to get into. Its the days 4,5,6 of Joberg2C from what I understand.

Hi,

We managed to get an entry for the 2013 Sani. Would you recommend that we take out a service package or not? Got an quote for R1500 per bike to wash & service after day 1 & 2.

My wife and I did it this year for the first time and chose to clean and service our own bikes. It really was not a big deal, and I took a basic set of workshop tools for normal issues.

I guess the trick is to make sure that the bike is in top condition before the event.

well, at the 2 day berg and bush, bike wash was free on day 1, and if you needed your bike cleaned before going home, you could get this done for a token payment.

A lot will have to go wrong in the 2 day race to justify service plans. if you maintain your stuff and keep it cleam, it doesnt break down. Service plans make sense (perhaps) for the Epic, Pioneer Trek or Joburg to see, where its 8-9 days of hard riding...
