What is the best overall racing wheels you get.

Bora?

Eastons?

Mavic?

Zipps?

Spinnergy?

HED?

 

Is a deepsection so much better?  What about climbing, sprinting?  Best value?  Normally these wheels are heavier and flex more, is it still the case?  Tubbies, or clincher?

 

I currently have Campaq Eurus(old), but want to buy new wheels.  Help pleease?

There was a study posted a while ago that shows aero wheels are better than light weels OVERALL. Unless you've got 3 sets of wheels to use for different stages, go for aero

This has been discussed at length, if money is not an issue Campy Boras take the cake,  Zipps @ R10000 unbeatable value for money.  Deepsectins make for some hectic handling in the wind but the rolling resistance is so much better than small sections

The Easton Tempests are good lightweight aero wheels and can be serviced at your LBS if you do brake a spoke or something.

Wheels like the Zipp 404 hae a point where the aerodynamic qualities start to loose it effect in a cross wind if you fall below 70kg's. obviously, a hectic cross wind and it does not really matter how much you weigh.

 

 

 

Depends what you want to do with them. If it climbing/cross winds a lot, the possibly mix a 50mm rear with a 30/40mm front wheel.

 

 

 

You also need to look at if you want and clincher or tubby.

i have never ridden aero --- too scared --- only 56 kg !

Personally, I love my 404's, but I am cautious of getting caught in a strong cross wind. I weigh 72 and would rather ride with a normal front if there is a huge cross wind.

 

 

 

I do however think that it is a personal preference. I love my Kysriums for routes with big climbs, but rolling or falt i love my Zipps, they do feel happier at higher speeds.

I am 66kg and ride HED Alps which are 55cm deep. I do not ride them if the weather report says the winds will be above 22km/h (no science in this) but when i do use them they are brilliant, so go for it!

I weigh 63kg... I felt an immediate difference when I put zipp 404's on... was so ridiculous it was actually scary... Never once had a big problem with cross winds and I raced them in some of the strongest cross winds in Cape Town...
