The trouble in this country is the theft. Most of us can replace the parts on our own but to replace everything due to theft is a lot of money in one lump sum. Unfortunately theft is a major risk here so we have to pay a lot to insure. Just don't think cyclesure is worth their costs anymore. Been with them for 10yrs but they are starting to get expensive.

Agree, the once off knock of theft or bike-jacking would be eina on the pocket. But like i said before I am just managing the risks where I can for the least amount of geld(theft from my house only) and if you can build up a nice lumpsum in a call account you also earn interest which is great, there are no questions asked when you need the moola, no arguments with insurers who refuse to pay out cash but rather to a LBS that inflate prices on limitted options where with cash you can source on your terms. Just to give you an idea...480 x 24 months = 11500 bucks without interest earned...which will keep on growing for another year or two when I want a new bike and you don't have to cover the "cheats" of the system.

That would not even cover my one bike frame mellow.png So far had 2 quotes. One from Miway and one from I-cycle. Both of those are nearly the same with one being R90 cheaper than cyclesure the other R110 cheaper. Asked for a 3rd quote from Tuff Stuff. Lets see what thay can do. Starting to become clear cyclesure are epensive.

I think if my current car insurance would insure them for theft I would be happy and not bother about full comprehensive. Pity as they car insurance very great value for money and been great service, and thats why I don't want to leave them.

True but then in another year or two, I will have enough for a brand new frame of my choice. you wont. Unless you one of those guys that cut the frame up into millions of pieces and dispose in the vaal dam claiming theft. But hey to each their own. Get cover that works for you and your circumstances.

One frame lasted 12yrs the other 5yrs i have a habit to get attached :-)

Even more reason to do the "insure yourself" thing but I then again you have a carbon fetish so it might be wiser to stick with all risk insurance. You do have to understand that you are rolling a dice and that your bike could be knicked tomorrow in a bikejack but then again you not moering the money down the drain. My feeling is it doesnt affect my livelyhood and thus won't get the insurance priority of a car / house / life. As they say in the classics...there is no such thing as a free lunch.

... Phoned them up and cancelled my policy on the zula and have been putting away that money in a call account every month...my bike fund so to speak so when I need to replace something I dip into there and have built up a nice amount over the last 2 years. I will use that for my new bike if and when I feel like it. The thing that got to me is people that proudly admit to screwing the insurance companies to get payouts on new cranks..new frames...new whatever knowing that me the honest bloke is indirectly sponsering them these new things through the big premiums every month. It is a roll of the dice...yes but works much better for me...for various reasons.

Nice post...

There is no free lunch in the world of insurance. (or anywhere!)

You just spread the risk over time. But YOU still pay, plus some.

In conclusion I-cycle seems not too bad on the quote. Tuff stuff and outsurance require you to move your whole insurance to them (car and household) miway seems ok and cyclesure way over priced.

Going to be making a few insurance adjustments soon......
